Vatican City has been made famous for being the home of the Pope (‘la papa’). It wasn’t until I lived in Rome – years after I’d initially visited the Cappella Sistina on vacation - that I got to know a little bit more about the tiny city that is also a country. Yes, Vatican City, aka Holy See, is indeed a country, a sovereign state to be exact, fringed on all sides by Rome. It is also where you will find the home of some of Italy's most admired artworks which can be seen by visiting the Vatican Museums. Hopefully reading this brief overview of Vatican City along with my personal experiences will encourage you to consider visiting Vatican City while in Rome - the artworks should be reason alone (particularly if you're an art enthusiast).
