Known officially as the Palestinian Territories (split between the West Bank and Gaza), Palestine is considered an unconventional Middle-East-itinerary stop: it's constantly shrouded in controversy, perpetrated - and often exaggerated - by Western Media. Although the name is often present on the news and in the newspaper (and rarely for a good reason), the experiences I had in the West Bank were nothing but positive. Granted, human suffering and marginalisation are present, the result of a complex history of political battles between various nations. But if you can move past the shroud of controversy and give considered thought to the people and their stories, then Palestine can be a gem of a travel destination. It's home to fantastic historical sites such as Jericho and a host of hospitable Palestinians, most of whom are willing to share the best parts of their homeland with you (including delicious fodder options). Be sensible (and perhaps avoid visiting Gaza which is off limits to tourism anyhow), do your research and consider visiting Palestine when in the region: I daresay you won't be disappointed. I hope this brief overview of Palestine has got your travel-juices flowing.
