The United Arab Emirates, renowned for oil, rapid development, world-class architecture and a high-standard of living, boast some key attractions that are tick-list items for visitors. But there's a big price tag attached to visiting the likes of Dubai that doesn't always suit the budget-conscious traveller. Money aside, there are opportunities to shop until you drop in world-class malls, stand on top of the world in a soaring skyscraper, get sandy in the desert or engage in a host of adrenaline (and often water-based) fuelled activities.
