With a several-thousand-year legacy of history and culture,  it's hard not to be left with a mouth agape when stepping foot inside the tiny East Asian nation.  So much of South Korea's history can be seen in the built environment but also in the people who have held onto Confucian principles so much so that decorum dictates social etiquette: helpfulness abounds as does kindness.
Then there's nature, summits aplenty, peppered across national parks.  The urban scene is also round-the-clock, a steady stream of entertainment and activities at your fingertips.  Food shouldn't be left out of the equation: some of the quirkiest and tastiest fodder options are created in South Korea.
There are few reasons not to visit (aside from perhaps tensions that sometimes flare with the country's northern neighbour).  Let this overview of the Republic of Korea and some further light reading fuel your wanderlust.
