Unlike its neighbours who have been ravaged to various degrees by tourism, Laos has retained much of its tradition - it's escaped rapid development, not necessarily to its detriment. It's this reason that made visiting the South-East Asian country so rewarding. There's a timeless quality to travelling Laos, particularly when moving through rural areas where life is unchanged, a glimpse into a bygone era. Laos moves in slow motion and I'd recommend you do the same. It's filled with great trekking and other adrenaline-fuelled activities, cultural immersion opportunities and a chance to engage quite authentically with local inhabitants. Visiting Laos was a personally rewarding travel experience.
